The belt and comb are the heart of the Van de Graaff generator, as together they create the static energy and transfer it to the metal sphere.  The motor is most like the brain, since it moves the belt along so the energy is created.  The sphere is the veins. It collects the static energy and transmits it out of the generator.  The rest is the body of the Van de Graaff generator, holding every other part together so it can work. They work best since they don’t conduct electricity, allowing the energy to all flow to the metal sphere.
